Held last April 21, 2015 at the Rizal Ballroom C, Makati Shangri-La, the event was hosted by the members of the Association of SAP-Supported Organization of the Philippines, or simply uSAP, an independent and not-for-profit organization which was established to serve SAP’s member companies.

Last December 19, 2014, the members of the uSAP community visited the SOS Children’s Villages in Ayala Alabang Village, Muntinlupa City to donate groceries and Christmas packs. The items were turned over to Jenny Villocino, SOS Corporate Relations Officer.

SOS Children’s Villages Philippines is a private, non-political, non-denominational international organization that provides long-term family-based care and education to children in need. It is a place for orphaned, abandoned and neglected children, and children in extremely difficult circumstances to belong to a home and family. Each house is headed by SOS “mothers” and “aunts” who look after the children’s needs.

uSAP aims to instill hope among the children who live in the community’s seven houses. Interestingly, these homes are named after the qualities that the children need in coping with life’s challenges—Acceptance, Understanding, Peace, Joy, Hope, Honesty, and Love.

Choosing a community as life-changing as the SOS Children’s Village allowed uSAP members to widen their outreach, creating an avenue for positive social change and being an influential voice in transforming the lives of others.

The uSAP community is now planning an outreach program to help the survivors of Typhoon Yolanda (international name: Haiyan).

“This activity, which is yet to be announced, is aimed at giving back to the communities affected by the typhoon. Helping them is part of our uSAP goals, including helping communities through our corporate social responsibility programs,” Aldrin Cerrado, Director for External Affairs, said.

Typhon Yolanda is one of the strongest typhoons to strike the country, November last year, leaving thousands dead and the survivors homeless in their own lands.

A report from the National Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council indicated that at least 9,497,847 people in 41 provinces were affected by Yolanda.

More than 6,000 people died while 630,054 people were displaced and at least 447,675 people are staying in more than 1,500 evacuation centers.

“Through our simple ways, we want to assist the government in reaching out to the thousands of people who survived the tragic event,” Cerrado said.

uSAP’s first community outreach program in 2012 was held at the Missionaries of Charity of Mother Teresa. The uSAP members visited the three centers in Manila and catered to abandoned children with disabilities and the elderly.

“This year, we want an activity that will really reach out and give hope to the chosen partner-beneficiaries,” Cerrado added.

Did you know that in a survey made by the Computer Security Institute, 90 percent of the respondents detected a computer security breach in their data, 80 percent acknowledge financial loss due to breach? These are just some of the facts raised during  uSAP, the SAP user group in the Philippines, first successful plenary for 2013.

It was a well-attended event that focused on an important issue companies face today – Data Security and Privacy. The main agenda of the event was to make sure members were aware of strategies to protect their data, and how they could adapt to changes in the local IT industry, as well as how new laws affected their businesses.

The members of uSAP’s community learned from invited experts in the field. Patrick Wang,  Business Development Manager APJ / Governance Risk and Compliance (GRC), SAP Asia, discussed how to survive in a riskier world with SAP GRC.

Kaisa Consulting’s Ryan Victoria presented Privacy 101: Data Security Implementation for SAP.

Fujitsu, a major sponsor for this event, brought in William Ho, Regional Senior Consultant to talk about why Data Management and Security is highly overlooked yet critical to IT Operation of companies.

The event ended with an open forum which allowed uSAP community members to share specific issues that they have encountered, and the possible solutions to address these issues.
